Feedback received from Parties responding to the survey on the organization of CoP-30

This report presents the results of a survey conducted by the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Directorate to gather feedback from Parties and staff regarding the organization of the 30th Conference of the Parties (CoP-30). The document analyzes participation trends, participant satisfaction with documentation and organization, and preferences for information dissemination, while noting the specific challenges and opportunities presented by hybrid and virtual meeting formats.

• Virtual and hybrid meeting formats have led to an increase in Party participation. CoP-30 saw 15 Parties participate, compared to 14 Parties at CoP-28 and CoP-29, and lower numbers at earlier physical meetings such as CoP-27 (10 Parties), CoP-26 (12 Parties), and CoP-25 (12 Parties).
• While virtual formats increase engagement, they create barriers to informal networking and discussions. The IAI Directorate noted that conditions for networking between in-person and virtual participants are "few or non-existent" and that hybrid meetings "continue to pose limitations to hold informal discussions."
• The survey response rate for CoP-30 was 53%, with 8 out of 15 participating Parties completing the survey. This represents a "marked decrease" compared to previous CoP meetings.
• Participant satisfaction with the organization and documentation of CoP-30 was generally positive, though some areas for improvement were identified. Out of 9 completed surveys, 6 respondents stated that the organization met their expectations and 6 stated the documentation met their expectations. Suggestions for improvement included sending presentations prior to meetings and presenting English reports more slowly.
• Parties identified several high-value topics from CoP-30, including the creation of the Center for Scientific Diplomacy, the gender equality committee, and the Health and Climate Change course. Specific interest was noted in the initiative to conduct National Climate Assessments and support for Adaptation and Mitigation.
• Official email notifications are currently the primary way Parties stay informed, used by 7 of 8 respondents. However, there is a strong preference for diverse communication channels, including the IAI website, Zoom update meetings during intercessional periods, and the IAI email listserv.
• IAI staff feedback indicated a perceived lack of time for certain discussions during the meeting. While all staff felt sufficient time was given to the Core budget, they felt time for the science program was insufficient, and were divided on whether time for capacity building was adequate.
