Informe de los auditores

This document is a report from the Executive Council of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) dated May 25, 2021, which presents the independent auditors' report and financial statements for the fiscal years ending June 30, 2020, and 2019.

• Independent auditors issued a clean opinion on the IAI's financial statements as of June 30, 2020, stating that they present the financial position and results of operations fairly in all material respects, following generally accepted accounting principles in the United States of America.
• The IAI's total assets increased from 1,609,410 USD on June 30, 2019, to 2,122,738 USD on June 30, 2020. This includes cash and cash equivalents totaling 1,439,257 USD as of June 30, 2020.
• The Institute experienced a positive change in net assets for the year ending June 30, 2020, amounting to 413,687 USD, compared to a decrease of 299,080 USD for the year ending June 30, 2019.
• Total revenues, gains, and contributions for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020, were 2,020,033 USD, a decrease from 2,598,601 USD in 2019. Total expenses for the same period were 1,606,346 USD, significantly lower than the 2,897,682 USD spent in 2019.
• The IAI's core budget is supported by voluntary contributions from member nations. As of June 30, 2020, the total amount due from member countries, including arrears and current year contributions, was 2,332,152 USD.
• The Institute manages several scientific programs funded by agencies such as the National Science Foundation (NSF). Notable programs include the Collaborative Research Network Program III (CRN III), which had an approved full budget of 10,500,000 USD, and the Co-funded Small Grants Program (SGP), which received 981,791 USD in contributions for the 2020 period.
• The Government of Uruguay provides the IAI with no-cost resources including support staff, office space, and cleaning services, valued at 117,819 USD for the 2020 fiscal year.
• The report notes that the COVID-19 pandemic, declared by the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020, created a highly uncertain macroeconomic context that could affect the Institute's future financial situation, though the impact could not be reliably estimated at the time of issuance.
