Report of the Financial and Administrative Committee

The Report of the Financial and Administrative Committee (FAC), prepared by the United States as Chair, provides an update on the financial and administrative status of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) for the Executive Council's 51st meeting.

• The FAC recommends that the Executive Council forward the IAI's core budget request for the 2021-2022 fiscal year to the Council of the Parties for approval. The budget maintains expenses at approximately $1,400,000 and proposes no increase in country contributions.
• The auditors' report for the 2019-20 fiscal year provided an unqualified opinion, stating that the IAI's financial statements fairly represented its financial position in all material respects.
• The IAI depends on voluntary contributions from member nations for its daily operations and research oversight. The report notes that the COVID-19 pandemic has strained member nations, and failure to maintain these voluntary payments threatens the long-term health of the IAI.
• The Financial and Administrative Committee (FAC) is an ad hoc committee of the Executive Council responsible for reviewing staff salaries, cost of living policies, member contributions, financial accounts, and the Core Budget. At the time of the report, the committee consisted of one individual from the United States and the IAI Financial and Administrative Officer (ex officio).
