Informe del Consejo Ejecutivo

This briefing document, prepared by the President of the Executive Council (EC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), outlines the activities, recommendations, and administrative matters to be discussed during the EC's 49th meeting on August 19, 2020.

• The Executive Council (EC) consists of nine members: Brazil (First Vice President), Chile, Colombia, United States, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama (Second Vice President), Dominican Republic, and Uruguay (President). The two-year term for these members expires in August 2020, and nominations for new members are being sought with a focus on gender and geographic balance.
• Efforts to organize a meeting of Latin American and Caribbean development banks, funding mechanisms, national funding agencies, and donors in October 2020 in Montevideo, Uruguay, were cancelled due to Covid-19. This meeting was intended to present and design a flexible financing mechanism for the Americas, as requested by Decisions XXVII/30 and XXVII/31 of the 27th Conference of the Parties (CoP). The IAI Executive Directorate plans to schedule a similar meeting during the 2020-2021 intersessional period, depending on external funding.
• The Executive Council recommends that the 28th Conference of the Parties (CoP-28) adopt the revised IAI Scientific Agenda, which was developed based on work by the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Science and Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC).
• The President of the EC has not yet received the IAI audit report or the Financial Status report because the Executive Directorate is missing required documentation and reports from Principal Investigators of SGP and CRN3 projects. Consequently, final approval of the audit report, financial status report, the 2020-2021 Operating Budget, and the 2021-2023 preliminary request remains subject to review by the Financial and Administrative Committee.
