Minutes of the 41st Meeting of the IAI Executive Council (EC)

The core budget request for FY 2016-2017 is US$ 1,416,116, which maintains operational levels similar to the previous year.
• An Open Science Committee (OSciC) has been established to advise the IAI on open science, open data, and open access. Proposed deliverables include a common IAI open science definition, a white paper on the state of open science across member countries, and a list of existing open data platforms.
• The Science Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) has identified three future focus areas: improving IAI visibility with policy makers, identifying regional global change policy demands to guide research, and diversifying and increasing funding sources.
• The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) recommended restructuring calls for proposals to be more frequent (annually or biennially) and introducing tiered project scales: large multi-year projects (million-dollar-scale), mid-scale projects (hundreds of thousands of dollars), and small grants (tens to hundred thousand dollars).
• The search for a new Executive Director was suspended due to procedural errors and a lack of clear interpretation regarding term limits. The EC determined that the current term is three years with eligibility for one additional term, but requested the Conference of the Parties (CoP) to amend the Agreement to extend the initial term to four years, renewable once.
