Minutes of EC-XXXV

• The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) faced a critical lack of continuity in membership, with four members' terms expiring in June 2013 and another four in 2014. To mitigate this, the EC recommended the appointment of five new members—Michelle Grunauer Andrade, Werner Wilbert, Claudia Natenzon, Paulo Hilario Nascimento Saldiva, and Susana Adamo—and the two-year term extension of Carolina Vera and Harold Mooney.
• The IAI is pursuing a strategic partnership with Future Earth, an international hub for interdisciplinary research. This includes a proposed consortium agreement between the IAI, the International Council for Science (ICSU) Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC), and UNESCO to strengthen interdisciplinary programs, specifically focusing on sustainable energy and risk.
• For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2013, the IAI collected 94% of approved core budget contributions. Total pending contributions amounted to approximately US$ 1.34 million, with Venezuela's pending contributions totaling US$ 324,000.
• The IAI's core budget request for FY 2013-2014 is US$ 1,296,714, which represents a 2.7% decrease from the previous fiscal year. The budget is distributed across salaries and benefits, travel, equipment, operational costs, dissemination and outreach, and a director's fund.
• The EC recommended the establishment of an Advisory Committee for Science-Policy Liaison to advise the Conference of the Parties (CoP) and the Directorates on designing science for policy and decision-making, aiming to make the IAI a "one-stop shop" for climate and global change information in the Americas.
• The IAI has implemented 10 international Collaborative Research Network (CRN3) teams with a total committed budget of US$ 8.4 million funded by the US National Science Foundation.
