QUARTERLY STATUS REPORT

This Quarterly Status Report from the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) provides a financial and administrative update as of March 31, 2011, for the EC-CoP meeting in Asunción, Paraguay. It details the status of member country contributions, core budget expenses, cash reserves, and administrative updates regarding internal controls and host country agreements.

• As of May 4, 2011, the IAI had collected 90% of the approved contributions for the 2010/2011 fiscal year, although the total amount of uncollected contributions had risen to US$1.7 million.
• The United States significantly increased its contribution for the 2010/2011 fiscal year by US$670,000, which eliminated its outstanding dues from previous years. These funds are available upon request and are scheduled for full disbursement by the end of 2012.
• Mexico's failure to pay contributions for the previous three fiscal years has caused considerable operational strain for the IAI.
• For the period from July 2010 to March 2011, actual expenses were 19% lower than the budgeted amount, totaling US$776,969 against a budget of US$959,250. Reductions were seen across all categories, with travel and training expenses decreasing by 88.3% and the Director's Special Fund activities being cancelled or frozen.
• The IAI's cash position improved by March 2011, with total cash reaching US$516,931.35, a 28.6% increase over March 2010. Core Budget reserves now cover 2.4 months of operations, or 11.2 months if committed US funds are included.
