STANDING RULES OF THE CONFERENCE OF THE PARTIES (CoP) OF THE INTER-AMERICAN INSTITUTE FOR GLOBAL CHANGE RESEARCH

The Standing Rules of the Conference of the Parties (CoP) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) outline the operational framework for the IAI's governing body. A Party is classified as "not active" if it has not participated in any of the three previous Conferences and has not designated a Permanent Representative during that period.
• The CoP prioritizes decision-making by consensus; however, if consensus is not reached, decisions are generally made by a majority vote of accredited Parties present, with each Party holding one vote.
• Elections for the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) must consider the need for "equitable geographic and gender distribution" and representation from various disciplines relevant to global change research.
• The Executive Director is elected by secret ballot at the CoP preceding the expiration of the current term by at least six months. Removal of the Executive Director requires a two-thirds majority vote by secret ballot.
• The CoP can establish various committees, including a Standing Committee for Rules and Procedures and a Credentials Committee (comprised of three Parties serving two-year terms), as well as ad hoc Intersessional or Advisory Committees.
