Joint report of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC)

This joint report from the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) details the committees' activities, membership updates, and recommendations ahead of the 33rd Conference of the Parties (CoP-33) in Asunción, Paraguay.

• A proposal was presented on 26 November 2024 to create a Regional Network of Climate Change Scientific Councils in Latin America and the Caribbean to facilitate capacity building, science diplomacy, and the centralization of public policy documents and scientific evidence.
• The SAC and SPAC are working to expand a roster of experts from IAI member states to provide consultations for scientists, journalists, students, civil society, and decision-makers, with nominations requested in May 2025.
• The committees are developing strategies to increase the IAI's visibility and engagement for the UNFCCC CoP-30 in Belem, Brazil, specifically by systematizing the outcomes of regional initiatives through repositories and articles.
• The report recommends that Parties diversify funding for the IAI's extramural programmatic activities by engaging the private sector, development banks, and donors, while ensuring timely contributions to the core budget.
