The IAI's Open Science and Data Working Group has updated its Open Data Policies and Principles for 2025-2030, integrating FAIR and CARE principles to ensure research data and publications are findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable, while respecting indigenous data governance. Key achievements include a 600% increase in the open data catalog between 2020 and 2025 and the training of twelve research teams. The policy mandates the use of Data Management Plans and the deposition of data in repositories like Harvard Dataverse or GBIF.

• The IAI has updated its Open Data Policies and Principles to strengthen commitment to FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) and CARE (Collective Benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility, and Ethics) principles, and to expand open access requirements to include both data and publications.
• Between 2020 and 2025, the IAI's promotion of its open data catalog resulted in a 600% increase in the number of included databases.
• The IAI's Open Access Policy defines 'open data' as data that can be freely used, reused, and redistributed by anyone, subject at most to attribution and sharing under the same terms, provided it is available in full at a reasonable cost, in a practical format, and without discrimination.
• To implement the policy, the IAI requires certain programs to have a Data Management Plan (DMP) and provides a Guide and Template for this purpose. For projects involving indigenous peoples and local communities, the DMP must specify how data will be managed according to CARE Principles.
• Research teams funded by the IAI are required to deposit fully documented datasets in the IAI Harvard Dataverse Repository, or in specific repositories such as GBIF for biodiversity data, and must provide enriched metadata.
• The IAI's 2025-2030 Implementation Plan includes objectives to increase regional capacities for sharing and reusing open data, training end-users such as government technicians and policymakers, and aggregating its open data catalog to national or regional nodes in Latin America and the Caribbean.
• The IAI has provided training to twelve research teams on the application of best practices for data management and exchange during and after their projects.
