Resumen de las actividades de la Dirección Ejecutiva desde el 1 de junio de 2024 hasta la fecha

This report details the activities of the Executive Directorate of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) from June 1, 2024, to April 28, 2025. It focuses on implementing decisions from the 32nd Conference of the Parties (CoP-32), expanding institutional partnerships, advancing transdisciplinary research on climate, health, and oceans, and strengthening science diplomacy through the STeP fellowship program and the Center for Science Diplomacy.

• The Executive Directorate is implementing several transdisciplinary research initiatives, including the Belmont Forum Collaborative Research Action (CRA) on integrated approaches to human migration/mobility in an era of rapid global change, with projects active in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay.
• The IAI launched the CRA FORESTS 2024 to coordinate multilateral projects on tropical forest regions, receiving 80 preliminary proposals, 49 of which were deemed eligible for full proposals. This initiative is co-led with FAPESP and involves 22 funding agencies globally.
• The IAI has expanded its network of Associates through new Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Climate and Resilience Center (CR2) on December 10, 2024, the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) on December 16, 2024, and a technical cooperation agreement with the Research and Innovation Foundation of the State of Santa Catarina (FAPESC) on August 20, 2024.
• The Science, Technology, and Policy (STeP) fellowship program has grown to include 81 fellows from 15 countries. The fifth cohort for 2025-2026 will prioritize bioeconomy, climate-environment-health, and climate services for drought management.
• The IAI is developing a regional project called 'SargMarine' to promote integrated sargassum management for resilient tourism and fisheries, involving Colombia, Grenada, Jamaica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago.
• The IAI established an Indigenous Peoples Advisory Committee (IPAC) following a call for candidates issued on February 5, 2025, which resulted in 14 applications by the March 19, 2025 deadline.
• A marketing evaluation conducted in October 2024 with 16 national representatives revealed a high turnover rate among National Focal Points, with 43% having assumed their roles in the last two years.
• The IAI is enhancing its digital educational offerings through the Virtual Campus, including a course on climate change, migration, and health in Latin America and the Caribbean, and upcoming courses on science diplomacy and transdisciplinary research scheduled for May 2025.
• The IAI is actively pursuing the accession of new member states, having conducted visits and meetings with stakeholders in El Salvador, Belize, and Barbados.
• The IAI is collaborating with the Andean Hydroclimatic Research Program (ANDEX) and participating in a project titled 'Research and discovery of observations on climate change in the Andes' supported by AccelNet and the US National Science Foundation.
