Informe resumido de las actividades realizadas por la Dirección Ejecutiva del IAI desde el 1 de julio de 2023 hasta la fecha

This report details the activities of the Executive Directorate of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) from July 1, 2023, to April 19, 2024. It outlines progress in collaborative research, scientific diplomacy, and thematic programs focusing on climate, health, oceans, and mountain science, as well as efforts to improve equity, diversity, and open data access.

• The IAI Executive Directorate developed a Collaborative Research Action (CRA) on Tropical Forests in partnership with FAPESP and the Belmont Forum. This CRA was approved in November 2023, with a call for proposals expected in June 2024. To support this, a training program under the IAI Transdisciplinary Academy has been launched to build regional research capacities and develop seed grant proposals.
• The IAI's Scientific Diplomacy Center (SDC) launched a training program for policymakers in the Americas, starting with an inaugural workshop in Panama from October 19-21, 2023, involving 11 IAI Parties. Further activities include a planned workshop in Brazil for November 2024 and the development of an open-access virtual curriculum on scientific diplomacy for Latin America and the Caribbean.
• The IAI established a research and training program on the nexus of climate, environment, and health, selecting 12 research teams from 15 countries for initial grants. Key partnerships include a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) on November 17, 2023, and the publication of a compendium titled "Salud, Clima y Medio Ambiente en América Latina y el Caribe".
• To address oceans, islands, and coastal systems, the IAI formed an advisory committee that has met four times. The institute is supporting the scoping activities for the Belmont Forum's "Oceans 2" CRA to ensure regional priorities are represented. Additionally, the IAI co-hosted a working meeting on "One Blue Health" in Brasilia on April 30, 2024.
• In the field of mountain science, the IAI held a regional workshop on GEO Mountains Andes in Bogotá, Colombia (February 20-22, 2024) with 41 participants from 11 countries. The IAI is also partnering for the 2025 International Mountain Conference and will attend the Andes Hydroclimatic Research Program (ANDEX) annual meeting in Lima, Peru, in May 2024.
• The IAI expanded its network of associates by signing Memoranda of Understanding with the University of the West Indies (March 4, 2023) and the Global Change Research Center (CICAG) of the National University of Asunción in Paraguay (November 1, 2023).
• The IAI is implementing policies for equity, diversity, and open data. This includes the creation of a Gender and EDI Committee and a committee to implement the Open Data Policy and Principles (meeting monthly since September 2023). The institute also hired a specialist in open science and data to support these efforts.
