This report details the selection process and recommendation for the new Executive Director of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), resulting in the selection of Dr. Anna Stewart-Ibarra.

• The Conference of the Parties (CoP) selected Dr. Anna Stewart-Ibarra as the Executive Director of the IAI during an extraordinary meeting in 2023, adopting Decision 2023/Extra-CoP/1 to offer her the position.
• The selection process was managed by a 10-member committee comprising representatives from member countries, the Science and Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC), the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), and IAI Executive Directorate staff. The process began in June 2022 following agreements made at the 30th CoP in Montevideo, Uruguay.
• The recruitment process involved receiving 10 nominations from Parties by November 1, 2022. The committee narrowed these to a shortlist of four candidates for initial virtual interviews in February 2023, and subsequently invited two candidates for final interviews on April 11 and 13, 2023.
• Dr. Anna Stewart-Ibarra was recommended for the role based on her 15 years of experience in academia and intergovernmental spaces, including serving as IAI's Chief Scientist since 2019. The committee highlighted her expertise in bridging the gap between science and policy, her success in fundraising from international development banks and foundations, and her commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
