Approval of the Report of the 30th meeting of the Conference of the Parties

• The 30th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP-30) took place on 14-15 June 2022 in Montevideo, Uruguay, and via videoconferencing, resulting in the adoption of 10 Decisions.
• The IAI Executive Director reported that the failure of Parties to submit voluntary contributions is creating an unsustainable long-term strain on the Directorate's ability to fulfill its work plan and responsibilities, leading to an increased reliance on consulting services over permanent staff.
• The Conference of the Parties approved the Core Budget for the 2022-2023 fiscal year and the preliminary request for 2023-2025, with no changes made to contributions due to the economic and social impacts of Covid-19 on member nations.
• The Conference of the Parties initiated the recruitment process for a new Executive Director, as the current director is entering the final year of a second term and is ineligible for further election; it was agreed that candidates must be nationals of IAI Parties.
• The IAI has established a Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy for its scientific projects and capacity-building activities, and created a corresponding committee including Argentina, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, the United States, and the Belmont Forum.
• The IAI is developing a Center for Science Diplomacy for the Americas and has instructed the Directorate to create a steering committee of Parties, advisory committees, and experts to guide its design and programs.
• The IAI is conducting a Regional Assessment with Parties to understand their needs and inform near-term priorities, with results scheduled for presentation at CoP-31.
• Panama was selected to host the 31st meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP-31) in June 2023, potentially coinciding with the Sustainability Research & Innovation Congress 2023 (SRI2023).
