Novedades sobre la asociación con Belmont Forum y acciones de investigación colaborativa (CRAs)

This briefing from the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) updates the Conference of the Parties on its partnership with the Belmont Forum and its involvement in Collaborative Research Actions (CRAs) to address global change challenges in the Americas.

• The IAI has integrated deeply with the Belmont Forum, becoming a member of the partnership in November 2018 and hosting the Belmont Forum Secretariat in Montevideo, Uruguay. Additionally, the IAI Executive Director served as the Belmont Forum co-chair for the 2022-2023 intersessional period.
• The IAI is currently participating in several Collaborative Research Actions (CRAs), including 'Paths to Sustainability' (supporting the Fish2Sustainability project with researchers from Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, and Mexico) and a project on human migration and mobility involving researchers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay.
• Regarding the 'Climate, Environment and Health' (CEH2) CRA, the IAI has conducted capacity-building activities with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Global Climate and Health Education Consortium (GCCHE), including three virtual courses and a one-week training workshop in Neuquén, Argentina. The IAI has awarded seed grants to 12 transdisciplinary teams and plans to support 5 projects involving IAI member states in Latin America and the Caribbean.
• The IAI and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) are co-leading a new CRA focused on 'Amazonia and Tropical Forests'. The call for proposals is expected to be presented in October 2023 and launched in early 2024. Preparatory activities include a January 2023 workshop at George Mason University in the United States, a planned June 2023 outreach event with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI), and an August 2023 outreach event with the Humboldt Institute and the Sinchi Institute of Scientific Research in Colombia.
