Presentación por los Fellows del STeP

The IAI's STeP Fellowship program, designed to train early-career scientists in the science-policy interface, has seen significant growth with 64 total fellows from 13 countries. In November 2022, 30 fellows participated in a Science Diplomacy Leadership Workshop in Uruguay, resulting in a leadership declaration. This declaration commits the fellows to transdisciplinary approaches, inclusive decision-making, and the pursuit of transformative change to address urgent challenges in the Americas.

• The STeP Fellowship program has experienced growth in participation, increasing from 17 participants at the start to 45 active participants during the 2022-2023 intersessional period, with a total of 64 fellows who have either enrolled in or completed the program.
• The program's fellows are diverse, representing 13 countries and over 40 different advanced degrees and disciplines, with a gender distribution of 42 women and 22 men. They are employed across the private sector and the executive and legislative branches of the public sector.
• Between November 12 and 15, 2022, the IAI funded 30 fellows from 14 American countries to attend a Science Diplomacy Leadership Workshop in Punta del Este and Montevideo, Uruguay, which covered transdisciplinary leadership, decolonization, and behavioral science in diplomacy.
• The STeP fellows authored a leadership declaration that advocates for the use of transdisciplinary approaches to create effective solutions and transcend the limitations of individual or national thinking.
• The leadership declaration emphasizes a commitment to transformative and radical change in the Americas, prioritizing the recognition of knowledge diversity and the reduction of knowledge monopolies to achieve actionable inclusivity.
