Conversaciones con Panamá para establecer una oficina regional

A briefing from the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) regarding discussions with Panama to establish a regional office to increase visibility and promote membership in Central America and the Caribbean.

• The IAI Executive Directorate has engaged in discussions with Panama to explore the creation of a regional office. This initiative aims to increase the visibility of IAI scientific projects and capacity-building activities, while encouraging non-member states to join the Agreement.
• The need for a stronger IAI presence in Central America and the Caribbean was highlighted by Panama's offer to host the 31st meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP-31) in 2023 and the 2023 Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress (SRI2023).
• Of the 14 states that are not party to the Agreement, 4 are located in Central America and 10 are in the Caribbean. To advance the regional office proposal, the IAI Executive Directorate held informal talks with Panama's National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (SENACYT) during missions on February 6-9 and April 11-14, 2023.
