Discussions with Panama on the establishment of a regional office

A briefing from the IAI Directorate regarding discussions with Panama to establish a regional office to increase the institute's visibility and promote accession in Central America and the Caribbean.

• The IAI Directorate has engaged in discussions with Panama regarding the creation of a regional office. The goals of this office are to enhance the visibility of IAI capacity building activities and science projects, and to encourage states that are not currently parties to the Agreement to join.
• The push for increased presence in Central America and the Caribbean is supported by Panama's offer to host the 2023 Sustainability Research & Innovation (SRI2023) Congress and the 31st meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP-31).
• Of the 14 states that are not party to the Agreement, 10 are located in the Caribbean and 4 are in Central America. To advance the regional office, the IAI Directorate held informal talks with Panama's National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (SENACYT) during missions on February 6-9, 2023, and April 11-14, 2023.
