Informe Conjunto del Comité Asesor Científico (SAC) y el Comité Asesor en Ciencia y Políticas (SPAC)

This joint report from the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Science and Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) details the activities, membership updates, and policy recommendations of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) for the period leading up to the 31st Conference of the Parties (CoP-31).

• The SAC and SPAC held joint teleconferences on the first Tuesday of every month during the intersessional period, covering topics such as the selection of a new IAI Executive Director, the launch of the Science Diplomacy Center, and the development of a transdisciplinary curriculum.
• Dr. Anna Stewart Ibarra was elected as the new Executive Director of the IAI, with her term beginning on June 1, 2023.
• The SAC and SPAC supported a training program on transdisciplinary research titled 'Climate, Environment and Health Responders in the Americas' in partnership with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and Columbia University's Global Consortium on Climate and Health Education. The program included a 7-week virtual training for 26 teams and a subsequent in-person workshop in San Martín de los Andes, Argentina, from March 13 to 17, 2023, for 13 selected teams.
• Members of the SAC and SPAC are collaborating to produce a policy report on water security for the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region, based on the IPCC's sixth assessment report.
• The committees participated in several high-level knowledge dissemination events, including the Americas Conference on Solar Radiation Modification in Kingston, Jamaica (August 24-25, 2022), the UN General Assembly Science Summit (September 2022), and side events at COP 27 (October 11-13, 2022).
• The report proposes several provisional decisions for the Conference of the Parties, including the establishment of a research and training program on the climate, environment, and health nexus, participation in the Andes Hydroclimatic Research Program (ANDEX), and the creation of a sponsored delegate program to facilitate Party participation in meetings and reduce the carbon footprint.
