Informe conjunto del Comité Asesor Científico (SAC) y el Comité Asesor en Ciencia y Políticas (SPAC)

This joint report from the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Science and Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) details their activities, membership updates, and contributions to the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) leading up to the 30th meeting of the Conference of the Parties in June 2022.

• The SAC and SPAC conducted nine joint teleconferences between July 6, 2021, and May 3, 2022, to improve communication and knowledge exchange. These meetings addressed the scientific program review, alignment with the IAI strategic plan, regional assessment working groups, and funding opportunities from entities such as the Wellcome Trust and Belmont Forum.
• The committees contributed to the revision of the IAI Scientific Agenda and supported a National Science Foundation (NSF) project focused on science-based policy capacities in the Americas. This included selecting consultants for training materials on science diplomacy and transdisciplinary science, as well as selecting Science, Technology and Policy (STeP) Fellows from Jamaica, Bolivia, Brazil, and Argentina.
• A dedicated Climate, Environment and Health (CEH) working group identified regional research priorities for Latin America and the Caribbean through a participatory workshop in August 2022. The group also helped create a virtual course, 'Respuesta al cambio climático para la salud en América Latina', in partnership with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and Columbia University, which saw over 2,200 registrants for its April-May 2022 session.
