IAI Strategic Plan Success Indicators and Metrics

The IAI has established a framework of indicators and metrics to assess progress toward its 25-year Strategic Plan (2019–2044). This framework includes 24 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and a series of leading and lagging metrics across categories such as fundraising, open data, capacity building, and science priorities. The system is designed to be reviewed every three to six years to align with the tenure of the IAI Executive Director.

• The IAI utilizes a three-tiered measurement system: KPIs to evaluate organizational performance and trend analysis, leading metrics to measure actions that lead to results, and lagging metrics to measure outputs or results.
• The IAI has set specific financial targets, including a goal for the endowment fund to grow by 2% annually and a target to receive a minimum of 10 million USD in contributions by 2024.
• To promote inclusivity in research, the IAI aims for 20% or more of its funded peer-reviewed projects focusing on interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary science to include representation from underrepresented groups.
• The IAI's open data policy requires new data to be available via its portal within two months of publishing or twelve months after project completion, whichever occurs first.
• The organization aims to demonstrate measurable regional impact by 2044 in areas including climate action, energy security, food security, water security, poverty and equality, human health and wellbeing, biodiversity and ecosystem services, and clean air, water and soil.
• The IAI intends to expand its membership and visibility, targeting a 5% annual increase in new inquiries from potential partners and aiming for at least one non-Party state to ratify the Agreement by 2023.
