Decisions XXVIII/7 and XXVIII/8: Invitation to Mitacs to become an Associate of the IAI

This briefing document from the IAI Directorate updates the Conference of the Parties on the implementation of Decisions XXVIII/7 and XXVIII/8 regarding the invitation for Mitacs to become an Associate of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI).

• The IAI Directorate sent a formal invitation to Mitacs on 14 September 2020 to become an Associate of the Institute, following Decisions XXVIII/7 and XXVIII/8 adopted at the 28th meeting of the Conference of the Parties.
• The IAI Directorate and Mitacs have agreed upon a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that outlines areas of collaboration and joint work, specifically focusing on science-diplomacy activities and the IAI’s Science, Technology, Policy (STeP) Fellowship Program.
• The IAI Directorate and Mitacs intend to finalize the signature of the Memorandum of Cooperation before the 29th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP-29) in 2021, with an oral report on the results to be provided during that meeting.
