Informe Conjunto del Comité Asesor Científico (SAC) y el Comité Asesor en Ciencia y Políticas (SPAC)

This joint report from the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Science and Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) details their collaborative activities, membership status, and contributions to the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) leading up to the 29th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP-29) in June 2021.

• The SAC and SPAC held nine joint teleconferences between September 1, 2020, and June 1, 2021, to improve communication and knowledge exchange. Discussions focused on the IAI Scientific Agenda, the publication of a special edition of CRN3, funding opportunities, alignment with the IAI Strategic Plan, and the creation of working groups for COVID-19, Strategic Plan indicators, and regional assessment.
• The committees collaborated on updating the IAI Scientific Agenda to better incorporate interdisciplinary research, specifically focusing on human issues and systems, in accordance with the IAI Strategic Plan.
• A dedicated working group was established in May 2020 to determine how the IAI could support member parties during the COVID-19 pandemic. This resulted in the development of three on-demand 'SciTalks' in collaboration with Virtual Keystone Symposia (VKS), featuring global health and science research presented in public webinars.
• The committees provided input on a four-year proposal submitted to the NSF titled 'Desarrollo de Capacidades para la política informada por la ciencia en las Américas través de la colaboración regional, la síntesis de la ciencia del cambio global, la diplomacia científica y redes transdisciplinarias'. This proposal addresses several IAI decisions, including the Fourth Round of Collaborative Research Grants and the establishment of a Flexible Funding Mechanism for the Americas.
• The SAC and SPAC established two new working groups in early 2021: one to develop indicators for the IAI Strategic Plan (meeting in February and March 2021) and another to create a model for regional assessment for consideration at CoP-29.
