Informe Conjunto del Comité Asesor en Ciencia (SAC) y el Comité Asesor en Ciencia-Políticas (SPAC)

This joint report from the Science Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) outlines the committees' activities, membership status, and contributions to the IAI's scientific agenda and policy integration leading up to the 28th Conference of the Parties (CoP-28).

• The SAC and SPAC have transitioned to joint meetings to improve communication and knowledge exchange, conducting eight teleconferences between August 27, 2019, and June 2, 2020. These meetings addressed the scientific agenda, IAI grant peer-review reports, the CRN3 special edition, funding opportunities, and the alignment of activities with the IAI Strategic Plan.

• The SAC and SPAC provided input on a five-year proposal submitted to the NSF titled 'Desarrollo de capacidades para la política informada por la ciencia en las Américas a través de la colaboración regional, la síntesis de la ciencia del cambio global, la diplomacia científica y redes transdisciplinarias'. This proposal relates to several CoP-27 decisions, including the Fourth Round of Collaborative Research Grants and the establishment of a Flexible Funding Mechanism for the Americas.
• In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the SAC and SPAC established a working group that met in May 2020 to identify strategic areas where the IAI could support member Parties. The group is developing a document of observations and recommendations for dissemination via webinars and publications.
• The report identifies several membership vacancies in the SAC and SPAC. For the SAC, terms are concluding for Tereza Cavazos (Mexico), Carlos Alfredo Joly (Brazil), and Michelle Grunauer (Ecuador), while Antonio Magalhaes (Brazil) has declined a second term and Moacyr Araujo has resigned.
