Overview of the Financial Status for FY 2019-2020

• As of 30 April 2020, the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research had received cash contributions equivalent to 37% of the approved contributions for the 2019/2020 fiscal year. The non-submission of expected funds is creating stress on the Directorate's ability to complete activities and fulfill its mandate.
• Total expenses for the period from July 2019 to February 2020 were US$ 892,215, which was 4.4% lower than the year-to-date budget of US$ 933,333. This represents a slight improvement in budget performance compared to previous years.
• The COVID-19 pandemic significantly reduced expenses in certain categories during the last trimester of 2020/2021, specifically travel and training, which were 24.9% lower than expected. Additionally, equipment costs were 50% lower than budgeted due to IT centralization, better staff training, and the inability to purchase two necessary pieces of equipment due to COVID-19.
• Dissemination and outreach costs exceeded the budget by 65%, resulting from expenditures to improve the design and functionality of the IAI website.
• A proposed amendment to Article XIII of the Agreement, which would change pledge increments to US$ 1,000 and set a minimum contribution of US$ 5,000, has not yet entered into force because the required two-thirds of the Parties have not notified the Depository of completing domestic legal requirements.
