This report from the President of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) provides an update on the committee's activities, membership status, and recommendations regarding ethical standards for the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) ahead of the 27th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP-27) in Brasilia.

• The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) is the primary scientific advisory body for the Institute, tasked with providing recommendations to the Conference of the Parties regarding the annual program, long-term plans, and the Scientific Agenda.
• Between sessions, the SAC and the Strategic Planning Advisory Committee (SPAC) held five joint teleconferences between September 3, 2018, and March 7, 2019. These meetings focused on improving communication, reviewing grants for the Ecosystem Services for Human Well-being in Adaptation to Global Change Small Grants Program (SGP-HW), contributing to the IAI's Strategic Plan and Scientific Agenda, and discussing a special 25th-anniversary journal issue related to Cooperative Research Networks round 3 (CRN3).
• The SAC is serving as the lead author for 'Theme II, Science for Sustainability of the Americas' within the 25-year Strategic Plan project. Four SAC members—Dr. Tereza Cavazos, Dr. Carlos Joly, Dr. Reynaldo Victoria, and Dr. Edwin Castellanos—are part of the ad hoc Strategic Plan Working Group.
• The SAC recommends revising Rule 3.2 of the IAI Rules on Conflicts of Interest and Ethical Standards of Conduct to prevent current SAC members from submitting proposals to any IAI call in any capacity (including PI, Co-PI, consultant, or advisor). This proposed prohibition would extend for six months after a member's term ends.
