Report of the Science- Advisory Committee (SAC)

The Report of the Science-Advisory Committee (SAC) provides an update on the committee's membership, activities, and recommendations for the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) as of April 2019.

• The SAC and the Strategic Planning Advisory Committee (SPAC) held five joint teleconferences between September 3, 2018, and March 7, 2019. These meetings focused on improving communication, reviewing awards for the Small Grants Call on Ecosystem Services and Adaptation for Human Well-Being (SGP-HW), providing input on a 25th anniversary special journal issue for Collaborative Research Networks round 3 (CRN3) projects, and revising the IAI's Scientific Agenda and Strategic Plan.
• The SAC participated in the SGP-HW review process, which ended on December 14, 2018, resulting in the selection of four projects for funding, with two additional projects selected after the IAI Directorate secured more funding.
• The SAC acted as lead authors for 'Theme II, Science for the Sustainability of the Americas' within the draft 25-year Strategic Plan, as requested by the ad hoc Strategic Plan Working Group.
• The SAC recommends revising Rule 3.2 of the IAI Conflicts of Interest and Standards of Ethical Conduct to prohibit current SAC members from presenting proposals to any IAI call as a PI, co-PI, consultant, or advisor. This restriction would also apply for six months after a member leaves the SAC.
