Presupuesto operativo y contribuciones de los países para el AF 2019-2020 y solicitud preliminar para 2020-2022

This document presents the operating budget request and country contributions for the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) for the 2019-2020 fiscal year, as well as a preliminary request for 2020-2022. It details staffing changes, administrative updates, and a request for voluntary contribution increases to alleviate financial pressure caused by payment delays.

• The total operating budget request for the 2019-2020 fiscal year is US$1,400,000, which remains unchanged from the 2018-2019 period. The budget allocates US$993,062 for salaries and benefits, US$86,930 for travel, US$238,008 for operational costs, US$19,000 for dissemination and outreach, and US$54,000 for the Director's Fund.
• The IAI is seeking a new Director of Science, having received 52 applications from 13 of the 19 IAI Parties, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brasil, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, United States, and Venezuela. Additionally, applications were received from non-Agreement states such as Guyana, Ethiopia, India, Italy, United Arab Emirates, and Zambia.
• The IAI's operational capacity is under pressure due to the lack of or delayed payment of contributions from some Parties. While the 2019-2020 proposal does not increase contribution levels, the Executive Directorate invites Parties—especially those whose contributions have not increased since the Agreement entered into force in 1992—to consider voluntary increases.
• Staffing and administrative adjustments have been made to reduce costs and streamline processes. This includes the non-renewal of a contract for an editing services consultant in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the centralization of ICT services through a contractor based in Montevideo, Uruguay.
