This briefing document, prepared by Dr. Reynaldo Victoria on behalf of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), requests nominations for two vacancies on the SAC to be filled during the 27th Conference of the Parties in June 2019.

• Two members of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), Dr. Elena Maria Abraham and Dr. Joshua Tewksbury, will complete their first terms in June 2019 and are eligible for reelection if nominated by a Party.
• The SAC specifies that candidates for the committee must possess high academic standards, a PhD or equivalent experience, and a strong record of research and publications. They should be multidisciplinary, experienced in managing international scientific projects, and knowledgeable about the social, economic, and ecological realities of the Americas, as well as the interactions between policymakers and scientists.
• For the 2019 nominations, the SAC specifically recommends seeking expertise in ecosystem services, oceanography, and general social sciences, and encourages nominations from underrepresented groups.
