Fundraising Report on implementation of the IAI long-term funding strategy

The IAI Directorate is implementing a long-term funding strategy to establish an endowment fund, which includes seeking individual donations and pursuing 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in the United States to attract donors and foundations.

• The IAI Directorate is pursuing the establishment of an endowment fund to support its scientific agenda, capacity building, and the provision of information to stakeholders, as directed by Decision XXVI/41 from the 26th meeting in Antigua in 2018.
• To attract external funding from foundations and donors in the United States, the IAI Directorate has engaged the New York City law firm Halfon & Boehm to obtain 501(c)(3) tax-exemption status.
• The IAI has filed IRS Form 1023 and is creating a not-for-profit corporation managed by a Board of Directors to enable the receipt of tax-deductible contributions. This corporation will be formed for charitable purposes, with a board consisting of Senior staff and potentially external experts.
• The Directorate is exploring diverse funding opportunities, including donor bequests, individual donations, and preferred investment strategies to diversify the endowment fund's portfolio.
