Decision XXV/19: Joint SAC, SPAC and EC-CoP meetings

This briefing document from the IAI Directorate outlines the coordination of meetings between the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), the Science Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC), and the Conference of the Parties (CoP) to enhance interaction and the science-to-policy interface.

• The Conference of the Parties (CoP) previously directed the IAI Directorate to ensure that meetings of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), the Science Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC), and the Executive Council of the Conference of the Parties (EC-CoP) overlap to facilitate interaction.
• To support Decision XXV/19, the second joint meeting of the SAC and SPAC is scheduled to occur back-to-back with the 45th meeting of the Executive Council and on the margins of CoP-26 in Antigua in 2018. A joint session of the SAC and SPAC is also planned for the morning of the first day of CoP-26, featuring a presentation by Guatemala's Secretaría Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (SENACYT).
• The IAI asserts that holding these joint meetings back-to-back with the Executive Council and on the margins of the CoP improves the organization's ability to provide scientific data and information to policy makers and focal points, while increasing awareness of the science-to-policy interface.
