Parties' nominations for SAC membership

A briefing from the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) regarding the nomination process for two vacancies on the Science Advisory Committee (SAC) to be filled during the 26th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties in June 2018.

• Two members of the Science Advisory Committee (SAC), Dr. Alicia Fernández of Argentina and Dr. Edwin Castellanos of Guatemala, will complete their first terms in June 2018 and are eligible for reelection. Parties may also propose new candidates for these vacancies, with nominations and curriculum vitae due by 20 May 2018.
• The SAC specifies that nominees should be recognized internationally for their science in the Americas and should not be viewed as country representatives, but as representatives of their science. Required qualifications include a Doctorate or equivalent experience, a strong publication record, and experience managing international scientific projects relevant to IAI strategic areas.
• For the 2018 nominations, the SAC specifically identifies a need for expertise in oceanography, ecosystem services, and social sciences in general, while encouraging the nomination of under-represented groups to ensure geographic, gender, and ethnic balance.
