The IAI Executive Directorate is implementing Decision XXV/28 to improve science communication for its research projects. Key actions include a 2017 workshop in Cancún, Mexico, collaboration with the IPCC and IPBES to align research with policy frameworks, the creation of a peer-reviewed special issue and website summaries, and plans for a science communication workshop in the Americas in coordination with the UNFCCC.

• To implement Decision XXV/28, the IAI Executive Directorate and Mexico held a meeting for researchers from the Third Round of the Cooperative Research Network (CRN3) in Cancún, Mexico, from November 29 to December 1, 2017. The meeting focused on improving the ability of projects to communicate research results to policymakers and other stakeholders.
• Representatives from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) identified potential cooperation areas with the IAI. These include contributing IAI scientific results to IPCC and IPBES processes, participating in relevant meetings, and aligning IAI scientific projects more closely with national environmental frameworks.
• The IAI is pursuing several communication initiatives, including the publication of a special issue in a peer-reviewed policy/development journal featuring position papers based on CRN3 projects, and the publication of brief summaries of study results on the IAI website for policymakers and stakeholders.
• Following a presentation by Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay at the 48th session of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) in Bonn, Germany (April 30 to May 10, 2018), the IAI Executive Directorate is discussing the organization of a science communication workshop in the Americas with the UNFCCC Secretariat.
