Informe de la Dirección Ejecutiva

This briefing from the Executive Directorate of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) presents a draft outreach brochure for adoption by the Conference of the Parties (CoP) during its 26th meeting in Antigua, Guatemala.

• The IAI is a regional intergovernmental organization consisting of 19 Parties from the Americas. Its primary purpose is to provide scientific information to civil society and policymakers to support informed decision-making and actions regarding global change.
• Since 2006, the IAI has invested 33 million US dollars in cutting-edge scientific projects and 5.3 million US dollars in scholarships for young scientists from Latin America. Additionally, 2,000 young professionals and scientists have received training, and the institute's research programs involve 477 scientists across 510 institutions.
• The IAI defines global change as encompassing climate change and other environmental shifts, including biodiversity loss, alterations to geochemical and water cycles, and changes in land use, all of which impact economies and human well-being in the Americas.
• The IAI's regional research and capacity-building initiatives cover a diverse range of topics, including biofuels, biodiversity, forest conservation and reforestation, emerging diseases, ocean food chains, fishery sustainability, and the effects of floods and droughts on megacities and rural communities.
