BUDGET REQUEST FOR FISCAL THE YEAR 2006-2007

This document presents the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) core budget request for the 2015/2016 fiscal year, along with preliminary estimates for 2016-2018. It details the funding required to maintain operations, monitor science programs, and manage the transition of the IAI Directorate.

• The proposed core budget for the 2015/2016 fiscal year is US$1,420,064, which represents a 4% increase over the previous year's budget of US$1,370,028.
• Salaries and benefits constitute 65% of the IAI Core Budget for 2015/2016, a decrease from 71% in 2014/2015. This reduction is attributed to operational savings in Uruguay, the removal of the IT Manager position, and lower cost of living adjustments.
• The IAI is managing several science initiatives, including the CRN III program (2012-2016) and the Collaborative Research in the Americas (SGP-CRA), the latter of which is scheduled to end by December 2015.
• The IAI is pursuing new funding and partnerships, including a proposal with the International Council for Science (ICSU) for an 8 million Euro research program in Latin America and a capacity building proposal to a Norwegian science funding agency.
• The IAI maintains observer status at UN conventions, participating in the UNFCCC SBSTA and the biodiversity convention CBD, including the new science body IPBES.
• The IAI has transitioned its outreach strategy from paper-based newsletters to digital platforms, including an enhanced website, Facebook, Twitter, and a YouTube channel.
• The IAI implemented SAP Business One as a new Business Information system to improve data security and reporting for country contributions, projects, and participants.
• The United States is the largest contributor to the core budget, providing US$831,000 (60.75%), followed by Canada at US$173,000 (12.63%) and Brazil at US$120,000 (8.73%).
