SAC membership renewals and nominations

A briefing from the IAI Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) to the Conference of the Parties (CoP) requesting the appointment of five members to the SAC in 2014 to replace four expiring terms and one vacancy.

• The IAI Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) needs to appoint five members in 2014. This requirement stems from four members whose terms expire in mid-2014 and one unfilled membership resulting from a 2013 resignation.
• The SAC recommends that the CoP reappoint José Antonio Marengo Orsini and Rodolfo Dirzo for a second term, and recommends the extraordinary reappointment of Frank E Muller Karger (the current SAC Chair) and Walter E Baethgen for two years to ensure continuity.
• The SAC provides alternative candidates, Graciela L. Binimelis de Raga and Trevor Platt, should the CoP decline the extensions for Muller-Karger or Baethgen. Additionally, the CoP must nominate one scientist to fill a specific slot, with Carlos Alfredo Joly and Roger S. Pulwarty listed as recommended candidates.
