This progress report from the President of the Executive Council (EC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) outlines the implementation of mandates from the 21st Conference of the Parties (CoP), the establishment of a Science-Policy Interface Advisory Committee, and the IAI's participation in international research consortia and climate conferences.

• The Executive Council (EC) established an ad hoc commission to draft the Terms of Reference for the CoP Science-Policy Interface Advisory Committee. This commission consists of representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, United States, Dominican Republic, and Uruguay, with Argentina serving as president and the United States as vice-president.
• The Science-Policy Interface Advisory Committee is intended to help the IAI integrate science and policy in global change without interfering in the internal political processes of member countries. Its members will be representative of various sectors and regions, appointed by invitation without a voting process.
• The IAI joined the ENSOCIO-LA international consortium under the European Commission's 7th Framework Programme to foster sustainable research and innovation cooperation between the EU and Latin America. A database of 534 projects was created, comprising 186 on climate change, 261 on resource efficiency, and 87 on primary materials.
• The ENSOCIO-LA project identified three priority areas for Europe-Latin America collaboration: Biodiversity, land-use change and climate services; Urban and rural hydrology; and primary materials (waste).
• The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) conference for the Americas and the Caribbean, titled "Developing, Linking and Applying Climate Knowledge," took place in Montevideo, Uruguay, from February 17 to March 2, 2014. Approximately 220 experts from 19 countries discussed translating climate information into sectors such as health, hydrology, energy, agriculture, ecosystems, and urban and coastal environments.
