EC progress report

The IAI Executive Committee has established an ad hoc committee to draft terms of reference for a new Advisory Committee on Science-Policy Liaison, aimed at integrating global change science into decision-making. The EC is also exploring strategies to increase member country involvement and funding, including reviewing the IAI Strategic Plan. Additionally, the IAI participated in the ENSOCIO-LA consortium to foster EU-Latin American cooperation on climate change and resource efficiency, and co-organized a World Climate Research Program (WCRP) conference in Montevideo to define a regional research agenda for climate services.

• The EC established an ad hoc committee, chaired by Argentina and co-chaired by the USA, to develop the Terms of Reference for a new Advisory Committee on Science-Policy Liaison. This committee's purpose is to provide advice on using science for policy and decision-making regarding global change without interfering in the internal political processes of member states.
• The EC is investigating strategies to strengthen funding and member involvement, including the use of bilateral agreements with national funding agencies to create multilateral co-funding for research and supporting young scientists through IAI networks. There is also a proposal to review the IAI Strategic Plan to align with new global research initiatives like Future Earth.
• The IAI participated in the ENSOCIO-LA international consortium, which created a database of 534 projects in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) focused on climate change (186 projects), resources efficiency (261 projects), and raw materials (87 projects). This effort identified three priority areas for EU-LAC cooperation: Biodiversity, land use change and climate services; Urban and rural Hydrology; and raw materials (waste).
• The IAI co-organized a World Climate Research Program (WCRP) conference in Montevideo, Uruguay, in March 2014, attended by approximately 220 experts from 19 countries. The conference aimed to define a research agenda for climate services in Latin America and the Caribbean across sectors including health, hydrology, energy, agriculture, and urban environments.
