SOLICITUD DE PRESUPUESTO OPERATIVO AÑO FISCAL 2014/2015 Y SOLICITUD PRELIMINAR 2015-2017

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) presents its operating budget request for the 2014/2015 fiscal year and a preliminary request for 2015-2017. The budget focuses on maintaining current service levels, monitoring scientific programs, and managing the transition of the Directorate's headquarters to Montevideo.

• The proposed operating budget for the 2014/2015 fiscal year is US$1,370,028, which represents a 6% increase over the 2013/2014 budget of US$1,296,714.
• Salaries and Benefits constitute the largest portion of the budget, totaling US$977,702 for 2014/2015, which is 71% of the total operating budget. This includes funding for 5 international positions and 2 local positions once the Montevideo offices are operational.
• The IAI is transitioning its Directorate headquarters to Montevideo and has allocated funds for this transition, including two transition positions in Brazil for up to 6 months.
• The Directorate proposes an 8.9% increase in member country contributions for the 2014-2015 fiscal year, raising the total fund from US$1,286,000 to US$1,400,000.
• Scientific activities for 2014/2015 include the administration and monitoring of the CRN III, SGP-HD, and SGP-CRA programs, as well as the conclusion of a MacArthur Foundation project.
• The IAI maintains observer status at the UNFCCC and participates in the SBSTA, recently highlighting its Tropi-Dry network at a June 2014 meeting in Bonn, Germany.
• The IAI has outsourced all IT services following the departure of the IT Manager in April 2013 to improve security, connectivity, and system potential.
• Preliminary budget projections for the following two years show a total of US$1,420,065 for 2015-2016 and US$1,421,098 for 2016-2017.
