Workplan for the science-policy liaison office

The IAI science-policy liaison office's 2013-2015 workplan focuses on establishing a baseline of current policy standing, strengthening relationships with member countries and the Conference of the Parties (CoP), and positioning IAI research within international conventions and organizations. • The science-policy liaison strategy is built upon three primary goals: establishing formal mechanisms for policy-science integration, positioning global change as a relevant policy issue to ensure IAI is a leading provider of scientific information, and encouraging collective action via policy decisions and use-oriented research.
• Between June 2013 and June 2015, the office will establish a baseline to monitor progress by assessing IAI's current standing with policy communities, existing liaison tools, and the alignment of IAI research with international policy agendas.
• The office intends to strengthen international positioning by seeking formal recognition from international organizations and conventions, specifically targeting the Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention to Combat Desertification, the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, and the UN Open Working Group for the Sustainable Development Goals.
• Engagement with member countries will involve a scoping period to map actors and identify opportunities across various sectors, including agriculture, environment, health, public works, science and technology, and foreign affairs.
• The office will support CRN3 and other research projects by evaluating if research questions align with audience interests and providing support for translation, adaptation, and outreach strategies to improve the legitimacy and relevance of the projects.
