Plan de actividades del IAI julio 2013 – junio 2014

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) outlines its institutional, research, and capacity-building activities for the period of July 2013 to June 2014, focusing on a structural transition to a tripartite system and the implementation of the CRN3 research program.

• The IAI is implementing a tripartite structure approved in June 2012, which involves moving administrative functions and personnel to Montevideo and establishing operational offices in Buenos Aires and São José dos Campos. Host country agreements have been signed with Argentina and Uruguay, while a new agreement with Brazil is under review.
• For the 2013-14 period, the IAI will implement new CRN3 projects aimed at better integrating natural and human sciences and improving transdisciplinary work plans to understand the environmental, economic, and social effects of global change. This effort is supported by cooperation and joint funding agreements with FAPESP in the State of São Paulo and CONICET in Argentina.
• The IAI has scheduled two capacity-building events for 2013-2014: one on adaptive water and energy management in arid regions of the Americas (June 24 – July 3, 2013, in La Serena, Chile) and another on modeling tools for complex human/natural systems (tentatively early 2014 in Antigua, Guatemala).
• A joint publication with CEPAL titled 'Urban responses to climate change in Latin America' is being edited for release in the second half of 2013, which will serve as the basis for policy syntheses prepared by the Executive Direction.
• A MacArthur Foundation-funded project focusing on climate change impacts on biodiversity in the tropical Andes will continue throughout the year, with research activities concluding in December 2013 and training and dissemination meetings planned for the first half of 2014.
