Work Plan 2012-2013

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Work Plan for July 2012 to June 2013 outlines research initiatives, capacity building events, and administrative restructuring, including a planned move to Montevideo.

• The IAI's research agenda for 2012-2013 includes the implementation of new training programs and the CRN3, the continuation of a MacArthur Foundation funded project regarding climate change impacts on biodiversity in the tropical Andes, and the final reporting for CRN2 in July and August. The institute also expects to link one or two CRN programs to the NSF's Program for International Research and Education and has signed grant agreements for a new Small Grants Program.
• Capacity building activities for the period July 2012-June 2013 include three training events: one on Adaptive Management of Water Resources under Climate Change in Vulnerable River Basins in La Serena, Chile (October 8-17, 2012), and two colloquia on Knowledge Integration at the Science-Policy Interface in Ecuador and the Dominican Republic. Additionally, an editorial forum with UN CEPAL is scheduled for October 28-30 in Buenos Aires to develop a book on Cities and Climate Change.
• The IAI Directorate seeks to resolve operational instabilities that have persisted for seven years, citing increased workloads and a reliance on external consultants and volatile support staff. The institute intends to address these issues in conjunction with a move to Montevideo during 2012/13.
