Plan Estratégico del IAI

This briefing document outlines the preliminary considerations and objectives for the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Strategic Plan, as developed by the Strategic Planning Commission (CPE) in May 2008. It identifies the need for a new plan due to evolving scientific contexts and defines the goals for guiding the IAI's institutional agenda over the next 5-10 years.

• The Strategic Planning Commission (CPE) identified several drivers necessitating a new Strategic Plan, including the transition from environmental science to the integration of human dimensions, the emergence of new stakeholders, and a shift from problem identification toward solution-oriented research, specifically mentioning the role of agent-based models.
• The primary objectives of the Strategic Plan are to provide a guide for the IAI's scientific and programmatic agenda for the next 5-10 years, moving away from an opportunistic model, while strengthening the science-policy relationship for Global Change (CAG) in the Americas.
• The IAI intends to use a Strategic Planning Workshop in November to address four main thematic areas: Global Change science (emerging themes and gaps), knowledge-involved dialogue (transfer of knowledge and stakeholder engagement), IAI governance (country involvement and funding), and cross-cutting themes (coordination with regional development and data management).
