IAI Strategic Planning

The IAI Strategic Planning committee is developing a new 5-10 year institutional agenda to move away from an 'opportunity driven model'. The process identifies a changing context for Global Environmental Change (GEC) science, including the need to integrate human dimensions and move toward solving issues via agent-based modeling. The plan focuses on four themes: GEC Science, Knowledge Dialogs, GEC Governance for IAI, and Cross-cutting Issues, with a synthesis workshop planned for November 2008.

• The need for a new strategic plan is driven by an evolving context in Global Environmental Change (GEC) science, characterized by the integration of human dimensions, a shift from problem identification to solution-seeking through agent-based modeling, and the emergence of 'teleconections' and multiple stressors.
• The strategic planning process is organized around four primary themes: GEC Science (transformational research and gaps), Knowledge Dialogs (science-to-operations transfer and stakeholder dialogue), GEC Governance (country engagement and funding), and Cross-cutting Issues (coordination with development and data management).
