Informe del Presidente del Consejo Ejecutivo

This report from the President of the Executive Council (EC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) details the formation of several committees and the preparation for a joint meeting between the EC, the Conference of the Parties (COP), and the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) in Venezuela.

• Following the 21st Executive Council meeting in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in September 2005, the President of the EC called for the integration of several committees, including a Financial and Administrative Committee, a Committee on Rules and Procedures, and an IAI Editorial Panel Committee.
• An Ad Hoc Committee was established during the 20th Executive Council meeting in Montreal, Canada, in May 2005. Led by the IAI Executive Director, this committee is tasked with addressing the IAI Directorate's increasing financial needs, the relevance of IAI activities to the global research agenda and member countries, the benefits of IAI activities for member countries, and the financial situation of member countries regarding agreed contributions.
• The membership for the committees was determined by the Executive Council's Steering Committee in consultation with the IAI Executive Director, based on individual participation, committee size, and representation of countries. Appointed members include Bárbara Garea (Cuba) and Margaret Leinen (USA) for the Ad Hoc Committee; Vanessa Richardson (USA), Louis Grittani (Canada), and Paulo de Oliveira (Brazil) for the Financial and Administrative Committee; and Louis Brown (USA) for the Committee on Rules and Procedures.
• The IAI Editorial Panel was expanded to include two new members: Luis Mata from Venezuela, representing the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), and Zoila Aquino from Panama, representing the COP.
