This report from the Chair of the Executive Council (EC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) details the appointment of members to various IAI committees and the preparations for a joint meeting of the EC, Conference of the Parties (COP), and Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) in Venezuela.

• Following the 21st IAI Executive Council meeting in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, several committees were populated with members. The Committee Ad Hoc, established at the 20th EC meeting in Montreal, Canada, was tasked with addressing the IAI Directorate's increased financial needs, the relevance of IAI activities to the global research agenda and member countries, the benefits provided to member countries, and the financial sensitivity of member countries regarding agreed contributions. Members appointed to the Committee Ad Hoc included Bárbara Garea of Cuba and Margaret Leinen of the USA.
• The EC Bureau, in consultation with the IAI Director, appointed members to the Financial and Administrative Committee (Vanessa Richardson of the USA, Louis Grittani of Canada, and Paulo de Oliveira of Brazil) and the Committee on Rules and Procedures (Louis Brown of the USA).
• The IAI Newsletter Editorial Board filled two vacancies: one position was filled by SAC member Luis Mata of Venezuela and the other by COP member Zoila Aquino of Panama.
• The EC Chair coordinated the agenda for a joint meeting of the EC, COP, and SAC in Venezuela through teleconferences with the EC Bureau (Canada and Cuba), the representative from Venezuela, SAC members, other EC and CoP members, and the IAI Directorate.
