The 'Normas del IAI sobre Conflictos de Intereses y Estándares de Conducta Ética' is a policy document adopted by the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) to maintain institutional integrity and public trust. It establishes rules for identifying and managing conflicts of interest regarding funding, budgeting, and grant administration, specifically targeting IAI staff, the Executive Council, and advisory committees.

• The IAI defines a conflict of interest as occurring when an individual's loyalty is divided between the IAI and another entity, stemming from three primary sources: personal interest, external affiliations, and favors.
• Specific conditions for disqualification from decision-making processes include current or recent employment at a candidate institution, financial interests in such institutions, or close personal and professional relationships with project researchers, such as family ties or collaborations within the last 36 months.
• Strict prohibitions are placed on IAI personnel and advisory members regarding grant applications: members of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Science and Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) cannot submit proposals in any role, a restriction that extends six months after their term ends. Executive Directorate staff are prohibited from being applicants or presenters of proposals under any circumstances.
• Post-employment restrictions are established to avoid the appearance of conflict, specifically disqualifying Executive Directorate staff from participating in IAI programs for one year after their service ends.
