CONFLICT OF INTERESTS STATEMENT FOR IAI PROPOSAL REVIEWERS

This document is a Conflict of Interests Statement for reviewers of grant proposals submitted to the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) under its Collaborative Research Network (CRN) program.

• IAI reviewers are prohibited from using non-public information gained during the review process for personal benefit or for the benefit of other individuals or organizations, although they may benefit from general professional learning about the IAI or the state of a discipline.
• Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of proposal contents and are forbidden from copying, quoting, or disclosing material from proposals. Consultation with the IAI Directorate is required before disclosing an applicant's name or proposal contents to a colleague.
• Potential conflicts of interest regarding applicant institutions include current employment (including adjunct or visiting positions), consulting arrangements, being considered for employment, ownership of securities, certain governing board memberships, or receiving an honorarium or award within the last 12 months.
• Conflicts of interest regarding individuals include family or marriage relationships with a principal investigator, business or professional partnerships, employment at the same institution within the last 12 months, thesis advisor/student associations, or collaboration on a project, book, article, report, or paper within the last 48 months.
• The IAI generally does not disclose reviewer identities to outside parties, though verbatim copies of reviews (stripped of reviewer names, signatures, and affiliations) are sent to principal investigators. The IAI notes it cannot guarantee non-disclosure if forced by member country laws.
