Lista de Acciones Día 2: 18 de Julio

This briefing document lists the action items approved and recommended by the Executive Council (CE) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) during its thirteenth meeting on July 18, 2001, in Panama City.

• The Executive Council (CE) reviewed and recommended candidates for the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) across five specialized areas: Climate Variability and Risk Assessment, Science and Policy Integration, Human Dimensions of Land/Climate/Urban Use Change, Biogeochemistry of Land Cover Change and Sustainability, and Changes in the Composition of the Atmosphere, Oceans, and Inland Waters.
• The CE established several working groups and committees to address administrative and operational challenges, including a group to finalize 'Suspension and Termination Procedures for IAI Projects' for CoP-VIII approval, a group to discuss the lack of commitment from some member countries, and an ad hoc committee to handle delays in voluntary contributions from member countries.
• The CE approved the Terms of Reference for the IAI External Evaluation Committee, specifying that the evaluation would begin in August 2001 and the final report and recommendations must be completed within one year.
• Several financial and programmatic items were approved for submission to the Conference of the Parties (CoP) VIII, including the Basic Budget Request for Fiscal Year 2001/2002, the 1999/2000 Financial Statement, and the General Guidelines for the IAI Scientific Grants Program – Stage II.
• The CE approved a synthesis analysis of the Initial Scientific Program (ISP) results to be conducted during 2001 using remaining program funds, and agreed that the IAI would be a convener for a 'Regional Workshop on Sustainable Science' in Brazil, scheduled for late 2001 or early 2002.
