PESCA Program Update

This report provides a status update on the PESCA program's project selection process as of November 8, 1999, detailing the proposal submission phase, the mail review process, and the scheduled panel and Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) reviews.

• The PESCA program received 22 proposals by the September 15, 1999 deadline, though two were disqualified for not linking with existing IAI programs. The remaining 20 proposals requested a total of approximately $516,000 in funding for a program with a budget of $300,000.
• The initial evaluation process involved 50 volunteer mail reviewers, with 30 evaluations received by November 8, 1999. The most reviewers were from the United States (17), followed by Brazil (9), Chile (5), and Mexico (5).
• The final selection process involves a two-stage review in Tucson, Arizona, USA. A review panel of seven experts will meet on November 15 and 16, 1999, to assign consensus scores to proposals. These recommendations will then be sent to the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), meeting November 18 and 19, 1999, for a final recommendation to the IAI Directorate and subsequent approval by the Executive Council.
